BAPTIST HEALTH, PUBLIC HEALTH AND EMERGENCY AGENCIES PARTICIPATE IN DISASTER DRILL “OPERATION BOOM 2010"
HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (April 20, 2010) BAPTIST HEALTH Medical Center- Heber Springs will participate in the North Central Region of Arkansas Hospital Emergency Preparedness disaster drill on May 6, 2010. Local emergency partners meet regularly to plan emergency response and coordination of resources to meet the needs of the community in the event of a disaster.
The
drill scenario is an explosion at the local courthouse causing multiple
injuries, and damage called “Operation Boom 2010". Throughout the exercise, information
that affects the decision making processes will be injected to address
operational and policy level responses by multiple emergency response
agencies. The exercise is intended
to provide an opportunity to explore a range of options and possible approaches
in the event of an actual emergency.
The objectives of the exercise are to further develop interaction and
cooperation between local, state and federal agencies.
The North Central Region of Arkansas Hospital Emergency Preparedness Committee is part of a statewide effort coordinated by the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Hospital Association. The state is divided into seven regions responsible for development of regional disaster preparedness plans. The North Central Region (Baxter, Boone, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Searcy, Stone, Sharp, White, Woodruff and Van Buren counties) coordinates efforts between hospitals, local, state and federal emergency response agencies and the community to ensure that North Central Arkansas can adequately respond and recover from a disaster.
